Mary Wilson of The Supremes - Here's To Life
A graceful, sublime performance from The Supremes' Mary Wilson.. A totally underrated voice, IMO (at least when she's given the right material)..
Apologies for the video error at the end.

Bravo Diva! Mary has never sounded better. Her sultry voice is perfect for moody torch songs and Ballard's like this. I'm so sorry Mary's no longer with us, but at least we have videos and recordings to remember her by. Rest In Peace Queen! Touch.
I love a fighter who believes in themselves. She was such an inspiration!
RIP fine lady.
Great performance Mary!! May you RIP!!
WOW!!!!
Legend <3
MISS MARY just TURNED IT OUT. WOW!!!!!!!
Incredible talent from the Great Beauty !
Stunning. Few touch Mary as a balladeer. I sometimes see postings lamenting her not having the chance that Ross got. True, but her career has remained high profile for 50+ years. The Supremes had 7 more top 40 hits after Ross left and Mary sang co-lead on two of those. She has had two songs hit the dance club charts including one in 2015. Her autobiographies were best sellers, she been an official cultural ambassador. She has had successful runs in musical theater productions and has spent years appearing in James Gavin's The Lena Horne Story touring production. My point is this: Wilson is a star, not the biggest and the brightest perhaps, but one of the most enduring. No need to lament her career at all IMO but a cause for celebration and admiration for her grit, tenacity and example. Love her always.
AGREE!!!
Couldn't have said it better. The race isn't to the swift or strong, but to SHE who can endureth! Amen?
wow, i really never got a chance to focus on her...very professional, graceful..
She's definitely more than a backing singer. A true contralto she gave the Supremes depth. It's great that she sings solo. What a waste otherwise.
Mary sounds beautiful!
It is balsam for my ears and soul to hear Mary's soulful voice. I can't understand she is not that famous like other top singers with voice like that. Beautiful. I thing jazz fit to her.
She absolutely tore that up! Bravo Mary Wilson !!!
You can tell that if Gordy had exposed Wilson to Shirley Horn and Sarah Vaughan (and other great altos) and worked with her early on, she could have entered the jazz scene and had an entirely different career.
Branner ,only diana get those opportunities.
This is one lady who LOVES to sing, you can hear it in every note, sing sing Ms Wilson
Florence LaRue of the 5th Dimension has added this song to her one woman show and says it is her favorite song of all time.
Mary really touched me with this song. She should have record it. Mary you are one hell of a good singer and I wish you stay around with us for a long, long time.
bless you Miss Mary Wilson......you are a sweetheart.....
Beautiful lady... terrific voice full of emotion... I couldn't help the watery eyes listening to this. God bless you, Mary Wilson.
I really like Mary Wilson's Jazz style. She reminds me alitle bit of Nancy Wilson. What a beautiful voice. I would love to hear Ms. Wilson do a Jazz Album. She has such a beautiful voice and range.
Mary is always SUPREME
I agree ,Jazz would have been natural for Mary...maybe she can still go there...Love Mary
Upon my return from Las Vegas and witnessing her "LIVE" at The Riviera Hotel & Casino "Starlight Room" 6/22/11 to 7/03/11 and experiencing the performance of this song, all I can say is that there are two artist that can do justice & deliver this masterpiece, mary Wilson & Shirley Horn, TWO TRUE AMERICAN MUSIC TREASURES!
I hope today's young generation learns about the story of Mary Wilson & Diana Ross, and how that relates to the story about Diana Ross & Barry Gordy.... Thank you for this post. Ms. Wilson deserves all the appreciation & love she's getting....& so much more.
@stage7 absolutely correct,thanks,shes wonderful
@DetroitD60 ithanks for your comments.I have been a supreme fan all my life.I met mary many times, she,s a very sweet lady, and keeping the supremes alive for us.
MY GRANDPA'S FAVORITE SONG - RIP. I LOVE YOU ALWAYS...
She really should have gone into jazz after the Supremes. Her voice has always had that smokey-jazz sound to it. I don't know who was responsible for the ill-fated Supremes Reunion Tour, but if it was true that Diana Ross was getting $4-million and Mary and Cindy Birdsong were only offered $1-million, Ross should have insisted on a third each. And then let them do some of the lead vocals, if that was the reason for more money. That would've been the reunion of the century!
For those who didn't see "Mary Wilson's At The Copa" she's back by popular demand from June 22, 2011 to July 03, 2011 at "The Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada." Mary, our appointed United States Cultural Ambassador has a show that's part of her world wide tour that represents around the globe our art & culture! Mary Wilson THE QUINTESSENTIAL SUPREME!
Mary sounds bettere THAN ever !!!! This is why she is STILL the Supreme SUPREME !!!! Norwin
oh my she sounds wonderful
Grammy material.
Absolutely sublime.
I just saw Mary Wilson in concert. She was Exquisite... Simply Exquisite.......A Lady SUPREME.
Thank you, Mary, for the beautiful memories!
Mary sounds fabulous as ever!
Mary is still beautiful and has that rich, velvetty, and powerful voice made for jazz. How wonderful it would be if there were great songwriters out there today! Keep doing what you do, Mary...you're the best!
Every time I see this video I get chills. Mary is such an exquisite singer. I have concluded that as much as I love Flo, and Diane, Mary is, by all means the Quintessential Supreme. She, I have concluded, was the best singer of the original trio. By no means does that under value Flo, who was a great singer, but Mary, well....just listen.............wow............shear magic! Like silk.....really smooth!
Sing MARY !!!!!!!
Here's to MARY WILSON at her Best!
I had a crush on Mary 40 years ago - when I saw her as a Supreme at Detroit's Fisher Theater. And: I have a crush on her today! It's great hearing her sing in good voice and showcasing her talent!
Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Here's to Mary Wilson!
I wish Mary would do more of this genre of music, it is so much more tailored to her voice than Supremes songs. She sounds and looks great here.
She sang it! Mary Wilson sang the &**%^$# out of this song! Superb and all Mary Wilson! Thanks
UNREAL!!!!! a totally "supreme" rendition!. what a great talent that never fully got her due. Simply beautiful.
After listening to Ms Horne's and then Shirley Bassey's versions, I believe 'this' one is almost ver-batum more like Bassey's musically, than Ms Horne's....>But it IS the 'song' and the same key as both, and will always BE 'LIKE' them both in ways, but THIS one is VERY 'WILSON'!!!!!!!
I don't really think this is the identical Horne arrangement. The chord changes are different, the timing is different, the phrasing is different, and the accents are ...... different. More 'lush' and more sophisticated. More....SUPREME. The vocal is definitely 'not' *like* Horne's, or even that similar to me. They're both GREAT tho'! But 'THIS' one's "consumate" in my opinion.
When Diana left The Supremes, she gave many interviews and in every one said that hopefully Mary would now get a chance to show off her gift and that she was an incredible talent. The fact that Mary remained unknown for the 7.5 years after Diana split shows it was the focus of the group, not the members, that kept Mary out of the limelight. When Mary went solo, she tried to be a disco queen and a rock star, settled into an oldies act instead of persuing her great natural gift as a chantuese.
Although she takes more than a few liberties with Shirley Horn's version, this is the perfect combination of music, lyric, and artist. Beautiful.
